In the course of recent decades, radical right politics increasingly shifted from the margins to the mainstream of the political process and continues to constitute a major challenge to liberal democracies in both ‘West’ and ‘East’. This seminar will explore and analyse PRR politics from a Europe-wide perspective. The seminar at the same time aims to provide the students with the conceptual and analytical toolkit of political sociology that can be applied to explore multiple dimensions of political agency in the political process. The seminar will begin by conceptualizing radical right politics in the contexts of its socio-political emergence. We will also discuss different demand- and supply-side mechanisms behind the rise and normalization of radical right politics. Finally, the seminar will explore the patterns, dynamics and consequences of PRR impact on societies and liberal democracies across Europe.
