The online course "Ecotourism with a hand lens: a biocultural ethics
approach for fair and sustainable tourism" will be approached
collaboratively among teams of researchers, professionals and doctoral
students. From Germany, the team led by Prof. Dr. Eveline Dürr
(Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology). Three doctoral
students, Saskia Brill, Martín Fonck and Mariana Arjona Soberón,
affiliated with the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology and
the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society will complement the course with their respective fields of research.
From Chile, the
the team will be led by Prof. Dr. Ricardo Rozzi of the University of
Magallanes (UMAG) and the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB), as well as the University of North Texas (UNT) in the United States, in
collaboration with Dr. Paola Ascencio and Dr. Laura Sanchez from the
University of North Texas. In Mexico, Dr. Alejandra Tauro will
contribute to this course from the Colegio de Puebla A.C.
This way, the course will be a pilot for integrating diverse perspectives from Europe, Latin America, and the U.S. The course will be offered 4-15 October 2021. The contents, methodologies and other materials of the digital platform will be in Spanish and English, and the course will be dictated in a
hybrid bilingual format. Spanish language skills are not a requirement but would be an advantage.
The course will be divided into two units:
(I) Theoretical foundations
(II) Ecotourism practices with a magnifying glass
This course will be a semi-face-to-face modality, considering virtual in-vivo sessions and self-guided work modules. The course will be recognized in each university according to the specific standards of the country and institution.
